A Soft Skills 4 Research (S24R) Initiative

The camp will be held in via Paolo Nanni Costa 20, the CNIT/WiLab headquarter in Bologna
 
 
 
The RESTART program, within its Education & Training mission, aims at shaping a new generation of researchers having the skills required to tackle with the evolution of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This general goal includes actions towards the development of soft skills of different types. This initiative is dedicated to cognitive skills.
 
The training initiative is intended for Early Stage Researchers (ESR): graduates, PhD Students, post-docs, junior researchers and anyone willing to strengthen their cognitive skills to succeed in their research career. It is open to ESRs from STEM and non STEM disciplines, even outside the borders of the RESTART program. In particular, critical thinking, creative problem solving and orientation to goals are the focus of the initiative. 
After a simple test, the participant will get a written statement useful for credit assignment (18 hours) within own institutions (e.g. PhD programs).
The whole program will consist of highly interactive sessions, with discussions, assessments and individual contributions. Participation is only allowed in presence.

SPEAKERS

Alice Bongiorni   

Alice Bongiorni has been helping companies build purpose-driven brands and become more innovative for almost two decades.
Currently, she serves as a Trainer and Facilitator, specializing in soft skill training and development. Her expertise extends to vision setting, team collaboration, culture design, transformational leadership, system thinking, agility, and human-centred design.
Her mission is to help people and organizations creatively solve complex problems, accelerate change, and embrace the long game.

Michela Catenacci 

Michela Catenacci is communication consultant and lecturer in research centres, universities, schools and companies on issues mainly related to: public speaking, knowledge dissemination, conflict management and decision analysis, emotional intelligence and communication.
She is TEDx organizer and curator, and speakers’ coach. She was Director of Communication and Research for the Valore D association of companies. Michela holds a PhD in Analysis and Governance of Sustainable Development and has a long international experience in research on climate change mitigation and adaptation policies, with a focus on complex decision analysis.

SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR

Roberto Verdone   

Roberto Verdone is Full Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Bologna, and Director of WiLab, the National Laboratory of Wireless Communications of CNIT. Since 2010, he teaches courses on soft skills at the University of Bologna. He leads the project Soft Skills 4 Success, oriented at talent assessment, in collaboration with experts of human resources. He is TEDx speaker and give speeches on the role of digital innovation at business fora. In the context of the National RESTART program, he coordinates all tasks on Education and Training. This includes the provision of courses on soft skills.

DETAILED CONTENTS

Ragionamento critico / Critical Thinking
Participants will develop their critical thinking skills by evaluating the validity and reliability of information. They will receive guidance in discerning and comprehending the contextual nuances surrounding information presentation, taking into account various perspectives and interpretations. Through practical exercises and real-life case studies, students will not only apply critical evaluation techniques but also develop the ability to formulate probing and insightful questions to explore complex challenges with depth and clarity.


Creative Problem Solving
Through this course, students will develop a versatile toolkit for addressing challenges creatively and effectively across diverse domains. They will learn to identify problems, generate ideas, evaluate solutions, and implement decisions using methods like traditional and reverse brainstorming, lateral thinking, and concept mapping. Practical applications will be explored through real-world case studies and exercises tailored to various contexts.

Orientamento al risultato / Orientation to Goals
This module equips students with tools to set and attain clear, measurable goals in academic and professional settings. They'll learn techniques to formulate specific objectives, leveraging the SMART framework and Lean principles to streamline processes and resource usage. Through metrics and KPIs, they'll track progress and evaluate implementation strategies. Agile methodologies will also be introduced for prompt adjustments, ensuring ongoing performance enhancement.
