Firmware Developer
WiLab is the National Laboratory of Wireless Communications of CNIT (National InterUniversity Consortium for Telecommunications). WiLab has been founded in February 2020 and includes more than 100 professors, researchers, Ph.D students and collaborators working together with industry stakeholders on plenty of national and international projects. WiLab mainly pursues both theoretical and experimental research activities geared towards proof of concepts on the following topics: Internet of Things, Mobile Radio Networks (4G/5G/6G), Vehicular Communications, Localization and Tracking, Applied Artificial Intelligence for Wireless Communications. At the same time, WiLab has objectives of scientific dissemination and public engagement.
WiLab is looking for qualified experts in 5G and Internet of Things technologies for the role of firmware developer in the field of Smart City applications. The activity will be carried in collaboration with Trailslight s.r.l.. He/she will report to the WiLab Area Leaders and WiLab Director, and will work closely with other WiLab researchers as well as other Trailslight employees.
Job Responsibilities
The ideal candidate should be familiar with communication standards, network protocols and architectures.
In this role, the candidate will:
perform a market analysis on 3GPP compliant modules; add 3GPP communications technologies (e.g., NB-IoT, LTE-M) to the already existing LCS TRAILS platform; update the current DALI protocol stack to D4i specifications; validate the testbed in a real world scenario.
The candidate will work both in the WiLab headquarters in Bologna as well as the Trailslight office located in Granarolo dell’Emilia (BO).
Competence Requirements Hard Skills:
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering
- Telecommunications
- Computer Science (or equivalent)
- good knowledge of English
- past experience in firmware development (C)
- knowledge of 3GPP technologies (e.g. NB-IoT, LTE-M)
- confidence in the exploitation of git-based platforms (e.g., GitHub, GitLab, GitKraken).
Optional appreciated competences:
hardware development; knowledge of embedded systems and their working principles (e.g., GPIO, I2C, SPI) past recognized experience with FreeRTOS; good knowledge of Italian language.
